Introduction

Pepaala News ("we," "us," "our") is operated by DHM Group Limited. This Privacy Policy explains what information our mobile application and website (together, the "Service") handle, and why.

In short: we do not collect personal data from people who read news with Pepaala. The only personal details we keep are the contact details publishers give us through the forms on our Publishers page, and we use those only to communicate with publishers who need further engagement with us.

Readers Using the App

You can use Pepaala without an account. We do not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, contacts or location.

  • Kept on your device: your favourite sources, saved stories, stories you hide and your settings stay on your phone. They are not sent to us.
  • Anonymous read counts: the app tells us how many times each story was opened so we can show what is popular. These counts are not linked to you or your device.
  • Story reports: when you report a story, the app sends the story, the reason you chose and a random code it created when installed. We store that code only in scrambled (hashed) form, so it cannot be traced back to you; it only stops one install from reporting the same story twice.
  • Network address: your internet (IP) address is used briefly to limit abuse, such as floods of reports. Where we keep it for that purpose, it is stored only in scrambled form.
  • Outside services: the app uses the third party services listed below, for example to count app usage, record crashes and show ads. They may process technical details such as your device model, operating system, app version and device or advertising identifiers, under their own privacy policies. None of them receive your name or contact details from us.

Visitors to Our Website

Our public web pages set no cookies. If you switch between light and dark theme, that choice is saved in your own browser only. The forms on the Publishers page are protected by a bot check (listed below) that looks at technical signals from your browser to tell people from automated programs.

These outside services work within the Pepaala app or website. Each one handles data under its own privacy policy, linked below.

Publishers Who Contact Us

When a publisher asks to be listed on Pepaala or asks us to remove their content, the form collects:

  • the website and brand or company name (listing requests), or the publication concerned (removal requests);
  • the contact person's name, their position (removal requests), email address and phone number.

We use these details only to communicate with publishers who need further engagement with us: to discuss listing their content, to confirm ownership before removing content, and to follow up on their request. We do not use them for marketing, and we do not sell or share them. Only authorised Pepaala staff can see them. We keep them while we handle the request and as a record of it, and we delete them when you ask us to.

Data Security

We protect the information we hold with appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encrypted connections, restricted staff access and scrambled storage of identifiers and network addresses.

Your Rights

Publishers who have contacted us can ask to see, correct or delete the details they gave us. Because we hold no personal data about app readers, there is nothing for us to look up or delete for them; clearing the app's data or uninstalling it removes everything kept on your device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
